- I have a 2-year old Best fax modem, 14.4, which I've been using
- with Win95 and Dial-Up Networking, successfully, since Win95
- first came out.
-
- When I dial with either Netcom's proprietary 16-bit dialer,
- called "Netcruiser," or ProComm, I also have experienced no
- problems -- up to now.
-
- As of about two weeks ago, for no apparent reason, whenever I
- attempt to use DUN, I get an error message telling me that the
- computer cannot communicate with the modem -- but only if I am
- dialing through DUN, using the very same settings that were
- working just fine for the last 8 months (?).
-
- I removed DUN, and then reinstalled it.
- I removed all the comm ports, but the one with my mouse on it,
- and reinstalled them.
- I removed the modem, and reinstalled it.
- I even tried tricking the #%@!!^@#%@$# install Wizard by
- temporarily moving the jumper settings on my modem
- for the IRQ's - it neither recognized anything being
- wrong, nor appeared to give a fig whether they worked
- or not.
- I double and TRIPLE checked all settings.
- Double checked the connection settings too, even making new
- connections.
-
- It still will not permit the modem to dial, and disconnects the
- minute it begins to dial, giving me the same error message that
- the modem cannot communicate with the computer, or words to that
- effect.
-
- Suggestions?
- Do I need to buy a new modem, even though it has been working
- just fine for the past 8 months?
